INAUGURATION OF THE SEAFARERS WAGES COUNCIL

The Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, together with officials from the Kenya Maritime Authority, presided over the inauguration of the Seafarers Wages Council, a key milestone in advancing decent work and fair pay for Seafarers. During the event, the Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting youth employability in the Maritime sector through initiatives like Kazi kwa ground, Kazi mtandaoni, Kazi majuu, and Kazi Baharini. Special attention was given to cruise ship jobs, which offer competitive salaries and strong career growth. The inauguration underscored the importance of strengthening Institutions and benchmarking with global best practices to equip young Kenyans for maritime opportunities. The launch of the seafarers’ wages council marks a significant step in protecting workers' rights while creating sustainable employment pathways for the youth in this vital sector.
